Title:   TERRACOTTA HEAD OF GIRL

Description:   Head of girl tilted slightly to right. Round face with high forehead, full cheeks, prominent chin. Eyes large, nearly round, opened wide; both lids defined; browridge not marked. Nose wide, flat, close to upper lip. Lips full, smiling, dimpled at corners. Hair waved loosely up and back from temples to cranium in thick, separated locks. Wreath around cranium is shaped like thick, tubular fillet, stippled. Leaf-shaped projections between ears and wreath at each side may be remnants of coiffure or headdress covered by wreath. Disk earring, punched at center, preserved on right ear. Possible later generation: head of Eros MF-1968-347 (Merker 2000, Corinth 18.4, cat. H290), perhaps from the same workshop, Workshop E (Merker 2000, Corinth 18.4, p. 345).Well-made piece.
Decoration:   White slip all over, red on hair and lips.
Material:   Fabric 1, orange-buff to orange
Condition:   Fragment. Single frgt., head and neck preserved. Missing left earring; wreath chipped in back.
