Description:   Marble slab, possibly a former revetment slab? Two surfaces smoothly finished; preserved edge worked with flat chisel. On upper surface, the following ornament (?) cut down into surface in very shallow relief. Described from the positive: a large ring, outer D00.046, inner D00.036, consisting of a flat band W00.005, decorated in low relief with a herringbone pattern, drilled hole in center of surface of mould for compass (?). Projecting from the perimeter of the ring are three of originally 4 trapezoidal tangs, surfaces of which cross-hatched in low relief. Projecting from end of one tang is part of a loop for suspension (?); in space between tangs are single narrow ribs or spikes in low relief. Unclear whether this is a mould for making an ornament: no evidence of burning or working, unless it was for a soft metal such as gold. Alternatively but less likely, it could have been some sort of low relief decoration on a revetment. Axis of ornament is not oriented to preserved edge
Material:   Moderately fine-crystalled white marble
