Description:   Fragment of bronze balance consisting of part of a long, slightly curving bar, circular in section, with an off-center hole for hanging a scale pan pierced into a roughly square protrusion at the end. Cf. Corinth XII, p. 216, #1672 and 1673 for both shape and decoration.
Decoration:   End of bar near square protrusion decorated with cast bead-and-reel pattern of two reels, one thick bead, two reels.
Material:   Bronze
Condition:   Fragment. Single fragment preserves part of balance bar including hole at end; missing balance indicator and opposite bar. Notches in square protrusion at end of bar.

Chronology:   Byzantine period or later based on analogy with Corinth XII #1672 and 1673.
