Title:   TERRACOTTA FIGURINE OF RECLINING FIGURE

Description:   Mouldmade terracotta figurine of male(?) figure reclining, with body extended to proper right. Figure wears low polos. Long hair or veil hangs down behind head. Facial features indistinct. Chest bare to waist. Drapery covers left arm, lower body, and falls onto couch. Left arm extends straight down, resting on pillow or cushion and supporting weight of upper body. Right hand extends across lower body and holds mesomphalic phiale or shallow dish in front of left leg. Right leg raised, with knee raised; left leg extends straight. Rectangular, slightly curved couch covered in drapery. Front of figurine covered in white slip or white paint. Red paint overlays white on hair or veil, face, and chest, as well as on drapery of arm. Red or crimson stripe runs horizontally across front of couch. Back roughly rounded by hand. Figurine hollow from waist down. Perhaps from same mould as MF-1032.
Decoration:   White slip over whole front; red paint on hair/veil, face, chest, left arm.
Material:   Fine reddish yellow clay.
Munsell Color:   7.5YR 8/6 (reddish yellow)
Condition:   Complete or intact. Intact. Preserving white paint or white slip over all, overlaid with red paint on face, chest, hair; traces of red or crimson on couch.
Period:   4th c. B.C.
Chronology:   late 4th or early 3rd c. BC
Findspot Description:   Found in Deposit II.
