| Description: | Cuirassed male figure, weight on right leg, left leg slightly forward, wears cuirass over mid-thigh-length tunic. Front of breast-plate decorated in relief with a draped female figure, either Tyche/Fortuna or Tellus, at the bottom. Figure shown only from the waste up. Holds a cornucopia cradled in her left arm and a staff or rudder in her raised right hand. Below breastplate are two rows of pteryges decorated in relief. Upper row, from proper right, ram head in profile, frontal medusa head, frontal lion/panther head, frontal medusa head, and ram head in profile. Lower row, from proper right, patera, crossed shields, trophy?, Amazon shield, rosette, rosette, and Amazon shield. Below pteryges, the cuirass is adorned with leather straps fringed at the lower ends. Rasp marks visible on leather straps below pteryges as well as on breast-plate. Piece coarsely worked in front and especially in back, pteryges undecorated and leather straps roughly worked in back. Thus, not meant to be seen from back, but rather displayed in niche or against a wall. Similar to S 1456 in iconography of pteryges and to S 1081 in general form. | |
