Description:   Head of Silenos, originally attached to a pier, over life-size. Hair recessed leaving high round forehead; hair parted in middle, with flat wavy strands framing face, roughly chiseled locks on side of head, long wavy locks to shoulders. forehead deeply furrowed, thick bushy eyebrows, deep-set eyes with heavy upper lids; incised wrinkles at outer corner. Long beard with wavy locks. Drill holes in tear ducts, possibly used to outline lt. upper lid, in broad channel that separates beard from hair; flat chisel in hair.
Decoration:   Traces of red paint on hair.
Mythology:   Silenos
Material:   Whtie fine-crystalled micaceous marble.
Condition:   Fragment. Top of head to base of rt. pupil without lower lid, lt. half face to beard; part of lt. side of head; missing nose, mouth, lt. ear, tip of beard.
