Description:   Female sitting on rocky seat, rt. leg forward, lt. back; lt. hand holds top of comic mask resting on left knee; rt. arm bent at elbow and cradling a "staff," crook of which broken away; traces of rt. hand evident on drapery brought over right thigh; lt. shoulder pulled slightly forward of rt. Fine, roughly worked corkscrew locks hand to just below shoulders. Wears a thin Ionic chiton, indicated by fine radiating folds of buttoned (missing) sleeve. A long Hellenistic chiton (peronetis) of a thicker material is worn over the Ionic one and is belted below the breasts; pinned with brooches at the shoulders and the neck and arm openings are defined by a thick rolled edge. The garment is smooth over the breasts and falls in vertical folds from the belt, to form V-folds between the thighs; diagonal folds generated from lt. knee to rt. ankle. The brooches also secure a back shoulder mantle, on which figure sits. It partly covers lt. shoulder and forearm, rt. hip and thigh where it is folded back to fall along outside of rt. leg to mid calf. She wears open-toed sandals with a raised band along the top of the foot and a single fastening "disk." Rasp marks on drapery, mask; flesh polished. Stationary drill in folds of mantle. Drapery hem separated from plinth by drill. Drill hole in plinth near left foot. Cf. Thalia.
Material:   Fine-crystalled white marble.
Condition:   Missing parts. Complete from neck to feet; thumb and forefinger of left hand damaged. Right arm missing below mid lower arm. Joining frgt. S 868, rt. elbow. Yellowish discoloration.
