Description:   Tip of right wing of large-scale sphinx; feathers stepped one above other, making scalloped outline. Uppermost feather curls inward. Wing warped or else tip intentionally bent outward. Outer edge irregularly trimmed or cut; back roughly smoothed with inclusions apparent.
Decoration:   Feathers outlined in matt black line, which overlaps outer edge of wing. Within outline have a broad reserved band, second black outline around heart, which is uniformly light red-brown on both feathers. On edge of wing very dilute red-brown wash. Back plain.
Mythology:   Sphinx
Material:   Clay with frequent fine to small angular black inclusions, with small bits of light red and white clay; clay fired pink for most of thickness to tan surface; fine surface clay.
Munsell Color:   Surface: ca. 2.5Y 8/3, back surface ca. 10YR 7.5/4 Core: paler than 5YR 7/6
Condition:   Fragment. Original: single frgt., preserving wing tip; added join: two pieces in all, giving wing tip and tip of adjoining feather.
