Description:   Two finished surfaces, one decorated, the other plain, are joined by a strut 00.013m. Thick, leaving an airspace of ca. 1cm. between them. The plain face is roughly flat, its surface wet-smoothed with inclusions apparent.
Decoration:   A + B: on the one face is painted what resembles the face of an owl. Parts of two large, closely-set circular eyes, drawn in black and fringed with black lashes. Solid black pupil also fringed. Face painted a dull light reddish brown 5YR 6.5/4. Two eyebrows ? drawn in short horizontal strokes of black descend to form a triangle. The face appears to be outlined by a broad groove painted black, above which tips of poss. vertical stripes in red and reserved colours, outlined in black. Groove on A flattened into a sloping surface, with stripes above oblique; beneath the band is a small black triangle. Groove on B slightly curved, suggesting that whole was circular. For clay cf. Material:   Moderate amount of fine coarser red and black mudstone, clay fired buff at surface, pink at core, fine thin surface slip without inclusions.
