Description:   Mouldmade plastic rattle, hollow, made in two-part mould. Depicts squatting Negro boy, sitting in a basket, with legs drawn up against body, head on knees, hands to face. Short hair arranged in radiating rings with short hatched locks, smooth along mould joint. High forehead, horizontally set eyes, snub nose. Nude, in so far as body visible. Basket in which sits is low in front, rising up above buttocks in back, unless this is drapery; has horizontal ridges (folds?) in front, shallow grooves in back arranged in broad concentric arcs. Base on whhich sits has vertical face, flat bottom. To proper left is a small conical basket with cross-hatched conical lid, and 2 ribs on body; basket continues down to base of plinth. Small hole in bottom D00.004. Rattle inside.

Material:   Fine clay fired gray at surface, red-brown at core - largely covered by glaze.

Condition:   Complete or intact. Intact except one very small hole in bottom of basket.
Manufacture:   Base: incised herringbone on face. Black glaze over all but bottom.
