Title: | EARLY HELLADIC CYLINDRICAL STAND
Category: | Miscellaneous
Category Code: | Z | |
Object Number: | 105 | |
Description: | Coarse ware (class D) according to Blegen (Zygouries). Cylindrical base. Lower portion of a substantial cylindrical base or stand that supported some kind of broad shallow basin made in one piece with the base. The basin is entirely missing and its size and shape are consequently matters of conjecture. The stand, which is hollow, is a well-made support. Cylinder swells out below to a bell-shaped foot which is decorated with a raised and impressed band. The foot’s diameter is quite large, from which it is legitimate to conclude that the basin it supported was a very large and ponderous one. The cylinder decreases slightly in diameter as it rises.
Decoration: | On foot is a raised and impressed band
Material: | Buff clay, no slip
Condition: | Fragment. Lower portion of base preserved, but upper basin missing. Some body sherds missing, RIP
