Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Object
Name:   Z 258
Title:   LARGE JUG
Category:   Miscellaneous
Category Code:   Z
Object Number:   258
Description:   Class B I (Glazed, partially coated ware) according to Blegen (Zygouries); jug with flattened bottom, single flattened, round handle and sturdy neck with broad shallow spout. Its curve in all cases suggests that the potter was fond of askoid shapes. The jugs have an almost spherical body and the shape is not ungraceful, though the flat bottom is sometimes carelessly made and causes the pot to lean. (Blegen, Zygories, 84)
Decoration:   Upper half of body is covered in a wash of glaze, a band of which also runs around the inside of the mouth. The glaze, which seems itself not to be of extremely bad quality, is carelessly applied in a coat far from uniform in thickness; fine brush marks are almost everywhere visible, especially where the glaze is thin. (Blegen, Zygouries, 84-85)
Material:   Greenish yellow clay, not too well levigated
Condition:   Complete or intact. RIP; missing spout, most of handle, parts of base and body
