Title:   LATE HELLADIC III STIRRUP JAR

Description:   Jar with flat bottom, short stem curving into ovoid shoulder, slight ridge at base of narrow conical neck, flat stopper extending beyond neck. Wide spout rising vertically from shoulder, torus rim. Two vertical strap handles attached to mid soulder, stopper. Pair of holes in bottom and top of both handles.
Note: this last number assigned by process of elimination.
Decoration:   Black glaze band on stem, lower body, two just below max. diam., three at base of shoulder; on shoulder, side A, two upside down three-petal flowers, half-flowers flanking spout, circle at base, top of spout. Drop on neck, three concentric circles on stopper, horizontal bars on handle backs.
Material:   Coarse tan clay with numerous fine black inclusions.
Munsell Color:   Between 10YR 7/3 and 7.5YR 7/4
Condition:   Complete profile. Numerous joining fragments, missing center bottom, 2-3 large holes in lower body, ca. 1/2 mid-body, several holes in shoulder; neck, stopper and handles complete; over half spout RIP.
