Abstract:   This study presents a two-letter inscription, ΔA, an abbreviation of the Greek word meaning “public,” carved on the lifting boss of a drum abandoned in a Corinthian quarry. The inscription constitutes the first epigraphical evidence for public ownership of Corinthian limestone quarries and adds to our understanding of the legal status of quarries in pre-Roman Greece.
