Broad, very shallow ribbon-like folds radiate from shoulder area, indicating that it was pinned there. The folds from the center of this area begin to descend vertically and then follow the contour of the breast. On either side of these slightly thicker folds radiate out diagonally. The central folds which follow the contours are intersected and overlapped by similar broad, flat folds that begin falling vertically, then curve slightly inward, following the contour of the underside of the breast. Rasp marks visible on drapery. Probably proper right breast of Venus Genetrix. Cf. Bieber, Ancient Copies pl. 23.","","Sculpture | Stone Sculpture","DRAPED RIGH BREAST: VENUS GENETRIX","","Corinth:Object:S 3634","","Object","Corinth","S 3634","" "Early Roman","Corinth:Image:bw 1993 037 30a::/Corinth/Photos/negatives/year_roll/1993_037/1993_st_037_030A.jpg::1800::1192","","Over life-sized male left forearm and hand, worked separately and fitted into rest of arm. Better finished on back, therefore probably down at side, bare in so far as preserved, with fingers wrapped around a T-shaped object with a long shaft resting flat against inside of arm and palm, and short cross-piece ends of which project just slightly beyond hand; fingers wrapped over top, thumb from below; nerves carefully modelled on back of hand and forearm; spatulate fingers with square nails. Drapery falls down to plinth in series of obliquely stacked folds that curve around to proper left side from central column, while separate mass falls to proper rt. of foot. Folds on proper lt. side curve around and are lifted behind foot as if from billowing air, then curve around to front gathered folds. Press folds visible on surface of drapery and just along hem. Drill in depths of folds. Surfaces carefully smoothed. Large curly locks are combed forward from beneath cap, ending in spirals; row of large spiral curls in front above forehead, all done with flat chisel and no drill.
