"Monument","","Korakou is a hill (260x115m) 35m above sea level overlooking the Corinthian Gulf at the western end of the city of New Corinth. Blegen excavated here in the summers of 1915 and 1916. He used the results of his stratigraphic excavations and the material culture he collected to formulate the chronology of the Bronze Age for the Greek mainland coining the term Helladic. The site was inhabited continuously from the EH through to the end of the LH period as architectural remains and pottery indicate. A geophysical survey and archival research point to the existence of a substantial enclosure wall circling the site on the east, south and west sides. The date of construction of the wall is in need of investigation through excavation. Korakou was the harbor of a powerful Mycenaean Corinth acting as an emporium and entrepot in the area connecting east to west and north to south.
