Notes:   Roman tomb Near Hexamilia Station
5 men
This Roman chamber tomb was found while digging a pit near the distillery opposite the Hexamilia railroad station. The police stopped the digging and we are to clear it out and then cover it up. It was evidently broken into in Byzantine or other times, probably earlier, and the roof has fallen into the middle. The fill down to the level of the bottom of the niches (see plan on p. 66) contained practically nothing- a few coarse sherds. Each niche contains a pot set into it, and there are four niches to each side and three in the back wall. Digging out the central back niche we found [page 063] the cover of an urn.
[drawing] Red paint on the knob and around it. Hole near the center. Half missing, but the pieces later found elsewhere in the tomb.
Terracotta figurine: [MF-7425] Eros(?) riding on pig(?) dog(?)- or rather a figure on a winged bull.
In west niche of back wall- nothing.
