Stratum:   pit fill N of wall 215; dark blackish-brown, loose, silty sandy, poorly sorted soil with 40% inclusions of tile and cobbles
Notes:   B66 is a continuation of B65. The basket was changed because over 0.60 m had been dug so far in B 65. But it is the same pit fill stratum as B 65. The occasional boulder was found along with a few large cobble size chunks of rotting limestone. This basket was stopped because it became clear that B 65 was lying under unexcavated strata to the west and north. It also appears to run under wall 215. What seems to have happened is that this pit is a continuation of the pit lying north of wall 215 that was dug in Roman times to repair or work on the sewar. Later, wall 215 was built and it cut through what was once one unified stratum of fill. See NB 979 B 7 ff. At the bottom of this stratum lies a reddish-brown soil of 50% inclusions of small to medium pebbles. It appears relatively well sorted, but this is not certain. Zembils sieved 4:1 dry sieve : water sieve. The total number of tile fragments in this B are 78 fragments, weight = 37,1 kg. Small pick used throughout.
