Stratum:   Fill running up to W 215 to N. Soil is medium dark brownish sandy clay with 40% pebbles, 60% cobbles, loose to compact.
Notes:   B 98 is the same as B 97, but perhaps more cobbles and pebbles are present. As we are digging down, we change baskets. We will also leave a skin of dirt on W 215, although there does not appear to be a foundation trench present. This same area of fill, one of the distinct patches noticed in ending B 96, cuts the southern darker layer. Interestingly, the visible cobble layer to the west does not extend to the east into this basket: we are now at an elevation clearly below the cobbles to the east of the pit-shaped depression of B 95. Found terracotta votive shield fragment. See top plan pg. 195. This trench continues in NB 984.
