Stratum:   Pit. East of Wall 293. Dark/medium yellowish brown sandy clay. 40% pebbles, 10% cobbles, loose.
Notes:   B 43 is the excavation of a trial trench centered on the amphora because we want to pull it out before the day is through in order to better preserve it as well as see how deep the loose fill goes. After we had exposed it to the point that it was most exposed but still in situ, we had it photographed and drawn. It seems as though there are two pots, the one with the skyphos on top appears to have been crushed from above but not disturbed. The pot directly north seems to be only the bottom half of an amphora tilted on its side. Both pots seem to be aligned N-S along the only actual cut we have of the pit. Farther to the east, we have what appears to bee a ledge except that it is is sloping down into the pit. After we began removing the amphora, we realized that it was one pot. We sieved 100% but kept the soil inside the pot for water sieving. We stopped excavating after we removed all of the amphora sherds. We also believe that we have found another part of the pit cut along the eastern edge. Before continuing down, however, we are looking west and north in order to find those edges. Found bone and one flake of obsidian. The two vessels found here were an amphora (C-06-01) and a skyphos (C-06-02). See pg. 76 for top plan.
