Stratum:   Mixed fill. Dark reddish-brown, weakly-cemented, 20% inclusions, poorly sorted, pebbles and cobbles.
Notes:   A pass to continue exploring the fill content of the pit whose boundary was resolved with basket 49. While the soil content was roughtly the same as basket 49, it had a slightly more loose composition. For this pass we left a martyr of c. 40cm next to the well-head/manhole to preserve any evidence of the cutting for the well-head/manhole. For this pass we also began to seive for any small finds. We stopped the basket due to a change in the nature of the finds, despite a very slight change in soil type. We began to uncover pottery and tile fragments in greater number and size. We also began to use the Dumpy level when we measured our bottom elevaton instead of the total station. This asket also contained a c. 10cm by c. 30cm marble slab with one worked face.
