Stratum: | Possible robbing trench for W 215 to castellum drain. Soil is reddish brown sandy clay with 20% pebbles, 20% cobbles, loose.
Notes: | B 26 is another pass in the "robbing trench" of whatever strip feature stops the floor surface of B 24 to the west. It lies directly under the area of B 21. The cut on the western side (into the floor) is defined but uneven. We are sieving 100%. The trench doesn't go all that far down and I am not convinced it ever contained a foundation for a while. At the south end of this trench, by where the back of the stones for the castellum drain curve should be, the soil gives way esaily, reveals a small shallow hole and is a bit redder. See top plan pg. 45.
