Stratum:   Martyr removal, dark, yellowish-brown, silty/weakly cemented, 5% inclusions, well sorted, pebbles
Notes:   Removal of the small martyr left around the diamond tile pool at the close of basket 19. We removed this martyr in order to determine the extent of the fill removed in baskets 17-20. It seems as though the edge of this fill at the level of the close of this basket is still unlcear/amorphous. The martyr produced a very small amount of pottery as well as fragments of wall plaster and iron. We also removed a large worked block from a break in the diamond tile pool on its northwest edge. This block had no evidence of cement; two tiles were pulled from beside this block. A small section of the tile and foundations of the diamond tile pool was missing at this point and the stone was resting on soil. We closed this basket when we reached the closing level of basket 20 so that the area can be explored as a single unit. The soil removed in the basket also contained a fair amount of cement/mortar.
