Area:   New Apotheke: D. Kokolopoulos and E. Lambraki Field
Title:   Room 1 - Top Rocky Layer
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1111
Context:   1
Date:   2016/05/30
Stratum:   Heavy tile accumulation, very rocky, only a few non-tile ceramic sherds
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is very dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   We re-opened Room 1 beginning with the top-most context of dense tile and rock scatter (c. 2.5 x 2 m). Tile from this context were in large pieces. There were not many ceramic sherds otherwise, but included many fragments of a pithos, the rest of which was in context 4. There was also a handsome fragment of a terracotta architectural frame (FA-2016-1 VOID, New Apotheke 1). Bone was collected here, including horse teeth. Two nails were also found. Layer of dense tile scatter abruptly ended, and soil was notably softer, darker, and silty-er, so we changed contexts.
