Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. Bottom slope of the context is slight down to the NThe soil color is mixed. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Compaction (cont.): a mix; see soil description above.
Change (cont.): As there are two deposits underlying B28, B28's relationship with each is different. It is diffuse with the bothros in SW section of B28, and clear over rest of B28.
EXCAVATION NOTES:
Some of the white surface appears to be coming up to the E. of the vaguely circular cluster of stones in the the middle of B28 (see sketch), and more stones are appearing to the W., maybe in a linear arrangement.
The soil that is powdery and lighter colored is almost pure silt, with only a very very small amount of sand. An area of light elastic greenish clay is appearing under B28 in different areas, generally towards E. of B28. The clay = floor? NB's of previously excavated area reveal that rooms in that area had clay floors. Perhaps the same as the hard white surface (d) along edges of N. scarp, just not dried out?
The potential stone feature (revealed with B13) in a vaguely circular arrangement has been judged to not be a feature--it is just resting in the deposit--and has been removed.
The silty area in the SW area of B28, after excavation of B28, has been revealed to overlie a cluster of large cobbles and boulders that seem to be resting in more silt. A potential pit? It will be dug separately after all depositionally later features have been removed.
It is possible that the very top of the pit was missed in B28--at the time, the silty areas of B28 (the area of the potential stone feature and to its W.--see bottom plan for B13) were taken to mean that B28 was a bit churned up--however, upon further reflection, the silt was pretty much confined to this area, where the cobbles and boulders of the pit have now appeared.
[Later note: the feature described above is not a pit. It was excavated with B55 and is simply another lens of fill in this area.]
