Stratum:   light yellowish grey sandy clay and light yellowish brown sandy silt. 50% + large boulders, tile, ceramic, sub-angular pebbles.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is mixed. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is mixed- see description.
Notes:   The top of this context consisted largely of light yellowish grey sandy clay. Underneath, the soil was more silty and become browner. All of it had inclusions of boulders, tile, ceramic and pebbles.
We remove these loose stones, but not the stones obviously part of the north-south wall, in order to better understand the area.
The soil of 285 and 287 did not have the large amounts of clay that this context has.
After removing the loose stones, several large stones still remain to the east of the north-south wall which go deeper and thus we initially decided not to remove them with this context.
More clay appears lower down at the north end of the context. We remove it also.
The foundation trench of the north-south wall becomes visible, with noticably redder soil.
Upon further excavation, we decide to remove the remaining large stones, as the same soil continues.
Beneath this layer the floor surface is revealed (see 325) and rises in elevation next to the wall (316).
