Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   331 is a grey patch of hard soil lying south of wall 332. 331 also seems to overlie a clump of boulders. Our purpose in excavating 331 is to define the edges of the robbing trench which continues south from the preserved end of 332.
Near the south end of the wall, 331 comes down on tiles that are inside the robbing trench. At present , it is unclear if these tiles are part of the foundation of wall 332. Guy came over and picked around for a bit and seems to have found the edge of a robbing trench just under the top of 331. Also Panos thinks he has the cutting for the foundations running along the course of tiles.
We may have moved too quickly in taking out this context if the cut Guy has found is indeed the robbing trench. Panos, Joel and I (Marty) can't see this cut past the small area where Guy found it. If this is the case and we dug the fill in the robbing trench at the same time as the fil outside of the trench, the pottery that came out today needs ot be kept separte from the subsequent pottery from this context. We wil clean the areas on Monday an reasses 331 and the surroudning fill to see if 331 can continue or if new baskets need to be opened.
Notes 26/5: Context 331 is closed. We decided that the rubble pile (336) to the west was really cutting the fil around it and should be next to go. 331 overlied part of this rubble. MW.
