Title:   Pit fill, third stratum from top
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1100
Context:   39
Page:   0
Date:   2007/04/24
Stratum:   Inclusions 40%: ceramic (pottery and tile), stones (small cobbles [less than 10 cm], coarse pebbles), roots. Hard to decide whether soil dark pinkish brown or dark yellowish brown. Clods break under firm pressure. Rough to the touch.
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. Bottom slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark pinkish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Basket changed to B39 from B37 because the soil was more compact, and the harder soil formed a wedge-shape down from the N. The E. and W. sides were lower than the wedge-shape and their change was hard to discern.
There's not much rubbish if this is a rubbish pit--maybe it is a well? Maybe a well that was later filled in?
The basket was changed to B41 when black ash started appearing, especially in the NE quadrant.
Before the basket changed, the sides of the pit were undercut in searching for the boundaries between deposits--but, the sides of the pit may have collapsed in at one point and the undercutting is thus real.
Contains a sherd that joins to sherd in B41 and sherd in B46 = these baskets deposited at the same time.
