Notes:   on 26/4/07 Thanasis and Andreas began to remove B48. They are working from W to E working their way towards the SE corner of both B48 and the excavation area.
Chunks of what appears to chalk have begun to appear= no, actually just limestone but there is more of this type of limestone, that is very white with the powdery consistency of chalky powder when cut by the picks than in any other area of Nezi field recorded so far.
A small area of stones was uncovered between 276.10 E and 277 E. The rocks were cleaned and drawn on the plan for B48. They extend into the S scarp.
After removing the upper portion of B48 Andreas, Alicia and I discussed what to do next. Since Andreas said that the soil remained consistant since the beginning of excavating this context, I decided that he would continue with the same basket, B48, and excavate another portion of it.
The removal of a second portion of B48 continues on 27/04/07.
The small area of large stones mentioned above will not be removed with the soil and inclusions of B48. They appear to be on top of other stones so we will clean around them very well and wait to remove them until we are sure they are not part of a built feature.
Andreas and Thanasis continue to excavate B48 on 30/4/07. In the central area of B48 2 cuts were defines. They are both shallow but the northern cut is deeper than the southern cut. The coordinates and elevation for the N trench are: (1) 275.00 E by 1004.24 N El. 87.44 (2) 277.04 E by 1004.32 N El. 87.49; for the S trench are: (1) 275.45. E by 1003.55 N El. 87.40 (2) 277.57 E by 1003.59 N El. 87.45. These cuts could be a lower level of plow furrows, a cut for a robbing trench or wheels ruts cut by a small cart involved in agricultural activity. Both cuts are oriented E-W.
