Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Deposit 506 was revealed with the removal of 505. It is a compact clayey deposit that seems to overlay partially the pit fill. We think that 506 is also part of the pit filling operation. However it was either walked on, or exposed to the rain and it became hard. On the southern side the removal of context 506 revealed some large fragments of rooftiles lying almost vertically in the deposit exposed underneath. It is possible that they are part of the pit fill and they are leaning against the wall of the pit. The removal of this context clarified the situation on the south side of the pit where we think that we have identified the cut for the pit. In the northern half of the context we exposed a darker colored soil with less clay that might continue toward the north. Since we have not identified the northern side of the pit we decided to close this context and work in the northern area of the room between walls 313 and 332 while trying to trace the north side of the pit.
