Description:   The context shape in plan is oval. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is sharp. The base of the cut is flat. Truncation: cut is truncated by a scrap created by early 1960's excavation.
Notes:   Soft dirt fills (5203) what is clearly a semi-circular cut/structure with a flat, thin, ashy bottom. At first we thought it could be a hearth in the corner of a room that was destroyed during the 1960's excavation, but we noticed that the clay used to line the pit was unbaked and most likely used for storage. Our excavation revealed no burning on the sides which were made of regular clay found throughout our area. Nor was there enough ash to enable us to say definitely that this is a hearth. We excavated the structure itself as 5239 and found it to be a storage pit. This cut/structure had definitely been truncated on the N. side by the previous excavation and we have yet to find the notebooks from the 60's that describe this destruction.
