Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the W. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   We are trying to determine the relation of the two sides of the N-S wall to each other, which are at different levels; the W., as left by the 1960's excavation, is far lower than the E. At first this looked like a single dump of pottery and earth extending about 0.5m out from the robbed lintel stone of the room. Excavation of this mixed earth and ceramic context revealed a semi-circle of sherds (5223) outside the robbed lintel (5195). There is a question whether this is fill cut by the robbing trench for the lintel block or destruction debris which built up against the side of an in-situ lintel stone. Later exavation on both sides of the N-S wall showed great amounts of roof tile to either side in layers directly below this context, 5227 on W and 5271 & 5283 on the E. Though the levels are different on each side. Since this context was clearly different than that of the fill for the adjacent robbing trench 5181 (containing far fewer inclusions) it is possible that these were not connected, but rather this soil had fallen as destruction debris against a lintel stone, later cut by the robbing of it.
