Stratum:   50% large rooftiles and small ceramic sherds, small charred bits, a few medium pebbles.
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark brownish black. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silt.
Notes:   W are excavating to the W of the N-S wall to figure out whether it was an interior or exterior space, how different layers related to those on the E of the wall and to the whole area. 1960's excavatons left two different levels on either side of this wall and flattened the levels beyond on N, E, and W. we dg this context against the possible entrance to a building (a robbed lintel 5181) to understand why these tiles were piled up here, whther it was leveling fill for a floor, a deposit left over time, an excavation dump, or destruction debris.
The lack of surrounding earth makes it difficult to tell, but the large amount of tiles in this level compared with other contexts we have dug around makes us believe this was destruction debris--since it is also concentrated around a wall and regular fill contexts we have dug tend to have their rooftiles spread out over a larger area, while several contexts around this wall have large concentrations of rooftiles abutting it: 5227 on W and 5283 on the E.
