Description:   The context shape in plan is linear. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is sharp. The base of the cut is flat. Truncation: Original Shape.
Notes:   Cut 5236 has a linear shape, but it widens at its south termination considerably, which explains the difference in the two width measurements of the dimensions section. This cut was easily discernable because the fill of it (context 5235) was a loose black soil with extensive inclusions, but context 5235's surrounding soil was redder , more compact, and less inclusion laden. It cuts into subflooring (context 5248), which abuts wall 5218. The finds from this cut will help date Wall 5218 and other adjacent parts of our area into which the foundation trench may cut; this cut appears to cut into and be later than the area to its W.
