Stratum: | Inclusions: small to medium mostly spherical subrounded pebbles (2%), a little carbon and tile pieces, some lime chunks
Description: | Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is dark greyish red. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes: | In the section of Room E west of the drain, red soil lay over the floor in the north. As we excavated it, it became clear that it also sharply cut the floor to the north, with a sharp vertical southern face to the context (bottom). Very red with few inclusions (incl. pottery). We continue to find the melted glass or glass slag that we have found elsewhere (e.g. in fill of foundation/robbing trench to the north). This may be the fill of a pit. The shape (crescent) is odd. We will fill out a cut form just in case it is a pit. The lowest surface reached is dark and seems to have evidence of burning. But, as mentioned, extremely few inclusions.
