Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   At the north/east corner of the martyr under red layer 5223 we noticed a roughly circular patch of brown soil that was distinct from the surrounding soil due to its comparative lack of inclusions and because it was less red than the surrounding soil. Although the workmen termed this pit a "bothraki," the presence of a root system at the east end and its location along the wall and, most of all, its shallow depth, suggest that it is merely the result of root action. There was no clear transition into the next layer.
