Stratum:   Total inclusions were 40%. 20% fine to coarse pebbles which were rounded to angular, spherical and tabular in shape. 5% bits of clay, 5% ash, and 10% pottery.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silt.
Notes:   We are digging a lens of fill on the west half of the dividing wall. During excavation of fill 5365, we noticed a cut which may be for a robbing trench of dividing wall. The soil section revealed at the east and northeast side of cut 5374 that if there is a robbing trench, our context 5371 overlies it and must be removed. Digging is revealing more of the top of the dividing wall, which now appears to be in line with the stone which juts out from W23. Also, the eastern face of the dividing wall lines up with the cut which we thought might turn out to be a robbing trench. Since the wall face would then be flush with this cut, it is possible that there is no robbing trench, but a foundation trench. In the southern half, Panos came down on a hard red soil which appears to be a continuation of the reddish fill in the east half of the room which is 0.26m deep (same fill that was cut by foundation trench 5329). On the north side we came down on a greyish-brown, soft layer which continues under a hard reddish layer along the north wall (it is NOT the same hard reddish layer on the south side). While similar to 5371, this greyish brown context must be a different stratum as it continues under the hard reddish soil along the north wall, which also continues over the dividing wall into the west half of the room. First, however, we must remove on small basket in the southwest corner of a small pile of soil over the hard reddish soil.
