| Description: | Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. The soil color is light greenish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt. | |
| Notes: | 5392 is the northern half under Wall 5376. It appears to stretch across the complete width of the martyr to the E, which also contains about 4 large cobbles (against Wall 5394). There were no other large stones in the rest of the deposit. Upon reaching the bottom, it was revealed that the stones on the E end abuting Wall 5394 are part of Wall 5395. Because of the amount of soil lying between this layer and the bottom of Wall 5376, it can be determined that these stones were NOT the foundations of this later Wall 5376. The bottom of this deposit was determined upon reaching a layer of redder soil with many charcoal inclusions. It should be stressed again that the 1960s excavations between Walls 5375 and 5376 dug down arbitrarily. Since both these walls appear to be later than any of the deposits we are digging, then there was potentially some relationship in the layers beneath these walls. This is difficult to determine now obviously. Also, a second ash deposit was uncovered on the NW corner of the deposit. | |
