Notes:   We assigned a context number to context 5395 because it represents a distinct construction from wall 5394. Both structures represent foundations of walls, but 5395 is earlier than 5394. The orientation of 5395 is slightly more westward than that of 5394, which supports the assertion that they have distinct construction phases. The walls (or one of them) are noted in the 1961 plan and the pre-1960s plan, but do not have legible numbers.
Small portions of the foundation trench on the W side were overlain by contexts 5399 and 5405.
It is unclear whether its N end is the terminus of the wall, or whether it was cut by some action (which also may have cut 5394). It is also unclear whether the wall 5395 supported was still visible when 5394 was constructed and the people who built 5394 consciously chose to build over the preexisting foundations to save on time and materials, or whether it was lucky coincidence that the builders of 5394 came down upon 5395, which was not visible at the time. Since no floor level has yet been assoicated with 5394, we do not know the sequence of events. Since almost all the soil laying against 5394 and 5395 on their W sides were dug out in the 1960s, and the martyrs left had confusing stratigraphy, better information could be obtained from the complete (uninterrupted) layers of soil on the E.
