It is sandy silt. | | Notes: | | We are removing leveling fill south of Wall 5411. Near the threshold blocks of Wall 5411, we encounter rock and tile. To the south, there is a firmer clayey surface. We have found another block south of the threshold; it makes the width of the wall under the threshold consistent with that of the rest of Wall 5411.
The removal of the fill 5448 reveals the entire width of the block in the course below the threshold block. It seems to confirm the interpretation of the threshold block and abutting block to the east (with the door jamb cutting) being part of the later phase in Wall 5411. The new block is cut away from the southern edge of the theshold block; the cut in this block may be from its use in an earlier structure or part of the operation the punched through Wall 511. There were some chunks of the crumbly limestone, which is the material of this block, in the fill 5448, but it may have been chipped off the block during excavation.
