Stratum:   10% inclusions: pottery, roof tile, small pebbles, subangular; worked marble boulder
Description:   Top slope of the context is gradual down to the S. The soil color is light pinkish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We decided to clean this area because there was no way of knowing the extent to which it had been impacted by 1960s excavations. It had also been subjected to considerable foot traffic since being exposed at the start of the 2008 season. Consequently, the pickman executed a deep cleaning pass, stopping at the first notable texture change some 0.15 m down. The newly exposed surface possesses subrounded, well-sorted pebbles and is light pinkes brown in color.
A piece of marble was recovered from this cleaning pass, worked on all sides with some sign of tool marks and a dressed face. Its dimensions are 0.215 m L x 0.16 m W x 0.05 m H. Just about 0.50 m E of the space between both 1960s pits, we uncovered a worked bone or horn hairpin with a duck on the pinhead. Coordinates for that were 263.41 E, 1032.41 N, and el. 84.84 MASL.
