Stratum:   15% incl: some large cobbles/small boulders, pottery, some charcoal
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This second deposit was separated from 5546 above, as we wanted to be sure to have a clean robbing trench deposit: the W extent of 5546 above was unclear and our workman had to dig down and out a little to try and find the edge. This mean that 5546 may be contaminated by pottery above and to the W.
We are working under the theory that these contexts are a robbing trench deposited after taking stones from the N end of Wall 5561. At this point it is clear that this deposit cuts the white pebbly floor in the square martyr to the W.
In the S half of this deposit, many boulders were found and appear to form a lower course of this wall. One large hole was found presumably where one of the stones was robbed out. These stones end abruptly at 2.15 m N of Wall 5562, more or less exactly where the stones visible in the course above stopped as well. The soil beyond these stones has many more tile inclusions.
We came down upon a hard reddish layer in the N. This layer goes below into our W square martyr meaning the cut for this deposit stopped here. Again, this context appears to have been the deposits of a robbing trench for the stones on the N end. However, upon reaching this level, the cut on the E appears clear, but the cut on the W is more diffuse. We will begin digging the square martyr on the W and see if this deposit can be better defined compared to those on the W.
