| Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt. | |
| Notes: | We are excavating this layer before the floor because it appears to lens over the floor (5707). The floor appears to slope down to the west, so it is possible that the removal of this layer which is west of the visible floor may reveal the western part of the floor. Excavation did not reveal the rest of floor (5707) but went down to a second floor below (5733). It is possible that the part of the upper floor (5707) crumbled at the eges and left us with unclear edges for the floor. This context (5701) may have been a leveling fill to fill in where floor (5707) crumbled. Boundaries with the floor below (5733) are clear but boundaries with the upper floor (5707) are slightly more difficult. We are removing floor 5707 next. | |
