Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is well sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   We moved to this context after exposing a fill below context 5744 that went below the plastered floor expoed by excavation of 5667. We did not notice this diffuse W boundary for context 5744 for some time, and the exact nature of these contexts and their relationship to each other remains uncertain. Our best guess is that context 5744, 5735, and the white plastered surface rested against each other, but that 5744's ending stratum is earlier (i.e., runs below) the plastered surface.
Consequently, we must excavate contexts that relate to the plastered surface to proceed. One, which lay directly to the S of the E limit of Wall 5725, was a layer of fill above the plastered surface. When it was excavated, we found that the underlying soil was light in color and hard, the same as the context exposed by the excavation of 5667.
We have to further explore the implications that this context had for our foundation trench for Wall 5725 as well. We did not find signs of a trench in this context or in the white plastered surface, and surely a difference in soil texture would show up if the trench were there. We did find it in levels above the plaster to the W, so either there is a complicated relationship between the soil and the walls that we do not understand, or the previous interpretation of the foundation cut showing up in the earlier level is incorrect.
