Stratum:   45% small -coarse angular pebbles, some cobbles
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish red. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   The deposit 581 is a lens of orangey clay that appears to be sitting on top of the brown floor revealed by the removal of the orange floor 576 that extended from wall 540 to the pier 573. It is possible that the deposit 581 is a continuation of the floor deposit that was slightly under dug in this area or a lens of sub flooring for the floor 576. The deposit extends along the east face of the pier 573 and abuts this feature. The removal of the lens 581 revealed an orangey cobbly deposit rather than a continuation of the brown floor as expected. It is possible that the cobbly fill lens below is associated with the foundation trench for the pier 573 or is caused by erosion of the floor's matrix due to water.
