Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light greenish brown. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are excavating the area bordered by wall 5842, wall 5677, and pit 5851. The soil was very soft at first, then it was discovered that what we were digging is a robbing trench or foundation trench that was later cut by pit 5851. It is possible that soft fill of the robbing trench had something to do with the location of pit 5851. Also, we initially thought that the pit 5851 seemed a bit large for the pithos. Perhaps those who dug pit 5869 took advantage of the existing, larger, older cut of the robbing/foundation trench (5871).
A foundation under wall 5677 was revealed (.20m down from the edge of the top of cut 5871). The foundation/wall of (5677) is bonded with cement and you can still see plaster on the wall's western face. Within the plaster, there are embedded pieces of ceramic. The last orthostate to the north on wall 5677 sits without bonding on this cement bonded and plaster faced wall. Below the cement bonded section of the wall is another N-S oriented wall structure (almost like a step at 83.96 EL) that appears to be separate but abuting wall 5677. The intrepretation of this unbound wall will require excavation to determine its function. As far as we can tell, this lower step/wall does not have cement as a bonding material.
At the bottom of 5869 within the fill is rubble comprised of cobbles and fragmented roof tiles.
