Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the E. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Trench fill deposit 5905 runs along the north side of wall 5906, which appears to be an earlier phase of wall 5443. Some of the top of the fill 5905 was exposed by the excavation of the fill of the foundation trench for wall 5443, though the cut was only visible after the removal of the pebble surface 5902. From this it can be speculated that the pebble surface 5902 corresponds to the first phase of use of the wall 5906, though evidence confirming this, such as the floor abutting the wall, was dug away when the later wall 5443 was constructed. The fill of the foundation trench is truncated to the west by cut 5859, a N-S robbing trench. It is possible that wall 5905 abutted wall the robbed out wall. A large ashlar block previously attributed to wall 5443 appears to belong in fact to wall 5906. This explains why the foundation trench 5551 tapered and failed to encompass this block. In addition to the two cuts and fills of foundation trenches, the line of the two phases is clearly visible from the south. It is possible that a soft fill of our EW cut south of the wall is the corresponding fill to 5905 south of the wall. The pebbly surface cut through for the construction of the foundations 5906 covers the western extent of the foundation trench south of wall 5463, which was revealed by the removal of the pit fill 5903; this indicates that the courtyard installation wall 5906 postdates the construction of wall 5463.
