Stratum:   Soft, poorly sorted, dark yellowish brown sandy silt with 10% inclusions (fine and medium pebbles).
Description:   The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are excavating a baulk left as a martyr by the 1960s excavations to the S of foundation 5552 in order to establish the chronological relationship between this baulk and the baulks to the N of foundation 5552 and the E of wall 5965, as well as to establish the chronology of foundation 5552. A lighter yellow, softer type of soil seems to cut the reddish soil of deposit 5972, suggesting a foundation trench for structure 5965. Deposit 5964 has fewer and much smaller inclusions. This is a fill, possibly laid on/filling a cut for a foundation trench (5966) for wall 5965.
