Notes:   Context 6236 is small ash fill located at eastern end of room immediately west of courtyard of Byzantine house. Sitting on top of a revealed floor surface (6237), so necessary to excavate at this point. Almost entire context was sampled for water sieving. Soil was soft clayey silt (light grayish brown) with approximately 10% well-sorted inclusions. There is no structure which would suggest this is a permanent hearth, but it does appear to be an area of burning associated with floor 6237.
