Description:   The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Context 6423 is a dark reddish fill in the southern part of the courtyard of the Byzantine house, a portion of which was excavated as context 6276. Excavation of 6276 was interrupted when it was realized that structure 10112 lay on top of it as well as staircase 6296. Permit restrictions prevent us from removing the staircase, and it may be decided never to do so. Thus, we have decided to pedestal the staircase, leaving a martyr, in order to continue excavation in this area.
6423=6276 was also overlaid by tile-built surface 6293.
Coint 2009-116 was recovered from this context. After surface was revealed below this context in the north, and thus 3/4 through the context, we decided to sieve the contents of this fill, in case objects resting on the floor may be preserved.
As the fill was being collected for sieving, a lead bulla was found, which if the name can be found in prosopography, could be a very precise criterion for dating.
Could not identify equivalent 2008 context.
